Security of private communications networks - Explained by Oded Kariti

Oded Kariti
It is pretty easy to conclude that mobile phones have increasingly become attractive targets of malicious programs of all kinds. The increasing number of smartphones and the percentage of use of complex mobile platforms will continue to grow. The functionality and complexity of mobile devices will continue to increase, as well as the base of their users. All of these growing trends will also trigger the development of malicious programs aiming for the cell phone safety.

Oded Kariti, a co-CEO at The Karitian explains this trend: Monitoring the development of malware apps for mobile platforms indicates a worrying trend. The velocity of their development and evolution and their growing sophistication is definitely a threat which will require a devotion of a lot of attention.

Fortunately for the cell phone security and even more for mobile banking security, mobile security industry began to develop the technology to secure cell phones. This cell phone safety base comes from the world of traditional PCs. Unlike the personal computer industry, which didn’t have that luxury, the telecommunications industry in the mobile security applications can implement decades of experience in combating with malicious programs. However, for Oded Kariti currently is more important is to raise the awareness of the existence and capabilities of malware apps on the safety of mobile platforms.

A survey conducted by Mr. Kariti showed that large number of mobile users do not have mobile security applications installed on their mobile devices nor possess sufficient technical knowledge to understand the extent of the threat on mobile security, even though the use of mobile devices is still less complex than the use of personal computers. Therefore, this matter requires a promotion and education of users in order to enhance their responsibility behavior as an influential factor towards the safety and prevention of spreading of malware apps harmful to the mobile phone security.

Being an expert for mobile security apps, Oded Kariti explains that although malicious programs for mobile platforms have not yet reached the level of being capable to create as much damage as they can in the world of personal computers, such situation will not prevail for much longer.

By closely monitoring the fast development of mobile devices and also the even larger growing of malware apps, it is evident to the Mr. Kariti that the world of mobile communications will continue to attract the attention of malware coders of all kinds.

Although the safety of mobile platforms is more difficult to protect than is the case with personal computers, this is definitely achievable with various security apps. But other than the protection coming from these antivirus apps, both for android systems and iPhone security, he suggests that a great roll plays the responsible behavior of users itself. “So far, larger was the problem of constituted insufficient attention given to threats of this kind and users ignorance of existence of such cell phone security issues”.

“My belief is that the blame for such attitude does not exclusively go to end users, but also to both manufacturers of mobile devices and their providers” says Mr. Kariti.

However, the situation is slowly but surely changing. The only question which still remains to be answered is how much damage malicious programs will do to the security of mobile platforms before the awareness of their existence and the seriousness of the threat they pose is fully develop.
